Head of Japanese and Korean Art, Christie’s New York Takaaki Murakami (村上高明), said: “This is a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire one of the greatest and most influential works of art in history. The last time a complete set of the Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji appeared on the market was 20 years ago.. Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) is perhaps Japan’s most famous artist. He is best known for his designs for prints and printed books, although later in life he focussed increasingly on paintings.
